Jan Op De Beeck

Most of my day will be filled with painting, so I wanted to get a quick sketch out of the way before I got started. The quick sketch on the left was done in about 60 to 90 seconds with a .3mm mechanical pencil. Then I took it a bit further with my .5mm.

Great work Jason! Thanks for the comments! I have no idea how you draw so fast - in 90 seconds I'd maybe draw a nose or some kind of abstract squiggle!!!

Great sketch!! I love your caricatures. You seem to achieve a great exaggeration without losing the essence of the likeness. To many times I see artist take the exaggeration so far that it makes the subject unrecognizable. In my humble opinion it defeats the purpose. Great work man I used to want to be a fireman, or an astronaut.. now I just want to draw like Jason. haha

Which do you draw from more often- photographs, memory or life?

Tim- Thank you much! I did the first sketch in about 90 seconds . . . just keep it simple, hold your pencil loose and move it around . . . get your first instinct down on the paper . . . you can do it, just takes prcatice!

Daniel- I couldn't agree with you more on your comment about exaggeration, really glad you like what I do . . . thanks for the encouragement.

Tel- Thanks man, actually Jan loved it, says he's going to use it as his photo for his bio in his next book! An honor for me for sure!

Windy- I draw more from photographs, because I have to, but I prefer to draw from life. In fact sometime this week I hope to escape to a cafe and sketch people . . . we'll see?
