Nathan Cameron Painting
This is a digital painting I did of my friend Nathan Cameron. I saved each step and there will be a step by step of this painting featured next Month in CG Arena's Digital Magazine. My Aretha Franklin will be featured as a step by step in July's 3D Total Magazine. Stay tuned for both of these.
Nathan is a good friend of mine who's a talented director/editor, he's filmed, directed, and edited music videos and short films . . . really cool stuff. He and I are currently finishing up my DVD on sketching . . . working on the editing end of things.
Detail. I felt it important even though I was going for a more realistic rendering to keep it brushy and loose in areas. It's painted and I want people to see that.
Here's the main reference of Nathan that I used for my painting.

Ha.. I love the "seiler" stray hairs that are always popping out everywhere. lol Great painting dude.. once again you amaze.
Love it Jason, That detail is beautiful, the colors shapes and hair are all impressive. Tell him to print that upclose on a poster and hang it over his couch. Beautiful.
JESUS...
Your friends get some Great ART!..
P
That's some nice distortion and a very cool painting style. I love it! Does it take you long to render like that?
Just great.
This painting is spectacular Jason!!! The skin tones and subtle tones is just beautiful!! I love it!! Great painting!!
You forgot to mention that Nathan also has the music in him. Has he ever met a karaoke machine he didn't like? :)
Very very cool man! The hair/facial hair is amazing on this piece. I hope when I grab your DVD I can get an understanding of how you do it.
Awesome work Jason, the colors of the face and the great expression you get, the detail is outstanding!
Wow !!! HAIR! which is my biggest chanllenge among many :(
I cant wait for the DVD.
I love how you retain the painted look, and especially like the shape of the lips in this one. Fantastic work:)
you're starting to wander into the realm of 'master'.
What resolution and size are you working at?
That is @#$% great!!!!
oooooooooooooooooooooooh you always surprize me.look so easy when you do it but in my turn may be i diappoint you with this face .you done it so perfect Mr. perfectionist.
Just amazing...

Awesome stuff Jason. Love the colours!
wow, great stuff! love the way you push the features, and amazing colours.
IMPRESIONANTE!!!!!!!!!!
class painting Jason. I love being able to see every brushmark on the shirt and it still looks so perfect.
Pero que caricatura mas espectacular !!!
como me gustaría que me dibujes!! jaja
Un abrazo grande jason !
I like the idea of retaining some loose painterly brush strokes. It makes a painting more interesting and offers more treats to the eyes than if it is highly polished and gives an overly-smooth digital feel.
When is your DVD going to be out? I can't watch to get one.
I love this you are so talented and gifted .
Man... just beautiful! The hair is bewitching and the flesh tones are perfect. Can't wait to see the Aretha Franklin painted.
I know Nathan...seeing him grow up in the house...the fests, and I think this caricature seems to represent a greater facet of him than this photo reference does. I mean, it touches my impressions...and even goes to the root of his simply being a"Cameron"
Very impressive, Jason...an absolutely wonderful piece of art work!!! Love it..
I'll bet Nathan loves it as well!!
Fantastic likeness Jason,love it
Incredible! Looks just like him! How is he doing by the way?
