Goodbye Cruel World!

"I ask you, being an Iraqi person, that if you reach a verdict of death, execution, remember that I am a military man and should be killed by firing squad and not by hanging as a common criminal."
-Saddam Hussein

Well, I guess they made a decision . . .

Farewell to President Ford

Here are some famous quotes from President Gerald Ford . . .

I am acutely aware that you have not elected me as your President by your ballots, so I ask you to confirm me with your prayers.

An American tragedy in which we all have played a part.

A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.

I had a lot of experience with people smarter than I am.

The three-martini lunch is the epitome of American efficiency. Where else can you get an earful, a bellyful and a snootful at the same time?

Truth is the glue that holds government together.

As I rejected amnesty, so I reject revenge. I ask all Americans who ever asked for goodness and mercy in their lives, who ever sought forgiveness for their trespasses, to join in rehabilitating all the casualties of the tragic conflict of the past.

I know I am getting better at golf because I am hitting fewer spectators.

It's the quality of the ordinary, the straight, the square, that accounts for the great stability and success of our nation. It's a quality to be proud of. But it's a quality that many people seem to have neglected.

My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over.

You are what you eat!

Bolton

Jack Bauer

My buddy Joe Bluhm posted a couple sketches recently on his blog that were inspiring to me, also, looked like a lot of fun. So I had to give it a go as well, using recylced paper that almost looks like a paper bag, lot's of fun to sketch on. I did this Kiefer sketch last night while watching last year's season of 24 with my wife. I sketched it from a picture of him that I cut out of an Entertainment Weekly.

This is a real quick way to get your lights and darks, before you even start, you already have your half tone as a base. All you need to do from there is add lights and darks and a little in between, and before you know it, you'll have a nice effect. Lot's of fun, did I mention it was fun?

Ok, so I haven't been posting much lately, hopefully I will get back on track very soon. As some of you know my wife and I are expecting baby girl number two. We could have our new addition to the Seiler family any day now, so as you can imagine I won't be doing too much until things settle down a bit.

Also, I've been doing a lot of editorial work, so I will have new work to share very soon, unfortunately I have to wait until they have been published before I can post them here. My latest was a piece that I did for the magazine "Reform Judaism", it's an illustration of the president of Iran, I won't give away any of the details, but will hopefully post it very soon!
Take care and have a great Holiday!

Glenn Kaiser

This is a quick sketch I did today of my Uncle (through marriage) Glenn Kaiser. I'd like to do more with this when I get some time, clean it up a bit, as far as accuracy goes, but for a quick sketch, it's fine for now. Glenn is a well known Blues musician, in my opinion, one of the best alive today, awesome, awesome music! He's also one of my churches pastors, truly a humble and compassionate person, a real inspiration to many, including myself! Check out his website at www.glennkaiser.com

Marco Cholo

Working on my brother's painting as well as Marco Cholo, have a great day, and God Bless!

The Happy Victim!

My Drawing Demonstration

Here are some pictures of the fella that I drew during my Dick Blick's presentation. I used toned paper and white and black charcoal pencils. During this presentation I stopped a few times and held up the drawing "trying" to explain my approach and madness! Truthfully I would have liked to have exaggerated this much more, you can't get 'em every time, well at least I can't anyways!

Dave Dorman's Body Guards!

One of the cool things about Saturday at Dick Blick's was that I got to me artist Dave Dorman, known mostly for his artwork for Star Wars, but he has also done covers for Batman comics and many others, and some beautiful paintings for Alien comics or graphic novels . . . he does some really great work, to see what I'm talking about, check him out on my list of links. As a kid I used to draw from his covers, so it was a real honor to finally meet him.

Anyways, everywhere Dave Dorman goes, the Star Wars clan follows . . . not really, but on Saturday they showed up, in full costume! I couldn't resist posing with them.

Dick Blick's Artist Appreciation Day!

Here are some pictures as promised. This past Saturday I was a guest artist at a Dick Blick's in Wheaton Illinois, along with well known Lucas film artist Dave Dorman, as well as Lucas artist Cynthia Cummens, and sculptor Joseph Lester. It was a blast, every artist was talented and had very interesting presentations. For my presentation, I spoke briefly about my approach to humorous portraits, what my experience has been so far in the world of illustration and so on. I shared my portfolio as well as had four of my original paintings on display for people to look at. I also did a quick drawing demonstration and picked a fella (or victim) out of the crowd to draw.

Marco

Here's a sketch I did this afternoon of my friend Marco. There's an oil painting in the works, much more information than what is shown here in this sketch, in fact the painting will show his full body, as well as an urban-type background. I'm also still working on my brother's painting as well as a few others. Been busy with work, so paintings that I'd like to do for myself keep getting pushed back, but I should have something soon to share with you.

My appearance at Dick Blick's this Saturday went really well, I'll try to post a few pictures tomorrow as well as share some of what went on.
Take care!

Bush, Bush, and Baker too!

Ok, I'm back again . . . been busy and not complaining! This Bush piece is my latest work, I've been asked to not mention who it was for, all I can say at this time is that it was done as a "shadow" cover for a weekly magazine in New York. It is possible that I will be a regular contributor to this magazine, but for now I am more or less trying out for the part. I was given the same assignment as one of their regular artists, they wanted to see how well I could do and if I could make the deadline. I am happy to say that I did in fact make the deadline, however it was rough. I was called Monday afternoon, around 4:00 p.m. and the final was due 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning . . . youch! I hope that this story has a happy ending, I'd love to be one of their regular artists, for now here's the final image that I presented to them as well as a few close ups of the detail.

Also, I finished my work for Cracked issue #4, I'm very happy with the final results, I'll post that as soon as I can. This Saturday I will be speaking and doing a caricature study in front of a live audience at a Dick Blick's art supply store in Wheaton Illinois. It is an art appreciation day and there will be a few other artists speaking and doing demos as well. One artist in particular that I am excited to meet is illustrator Dave Dorman. You may have seen his work for DC comics, Marvel comics as well as Lucas film artwork, which includes posters for Star Wars movies. It will be a fun day! I'll post pictures next week!
Take care!
