Jim Jones for KING Magazine
Here's another silhouette spot illustration for KING magazine. Like the Kanye West, this Jim Jones painting was done as a 1/4 page spot. I painted the Kanye and Jim Jones in four to five days, that's including sketching and all the goings on of working a job. I really enjoyed the look of Jim's mouth, looked a bit greasy, sort of slimy, so I tried to capture that feeling a bit.
Jim Jones is a very successful business man, but in the "business world" people are confused how he became so successful . . . . . I don't know anything about him, or Kanye for that matter, but I was told that he's pretty much horrible at everything he does. So the a.d. wanted me to portray him as a bum of sorts wearing a business suit.
These are some of the sketches that I did in prep for the painting.

Fantastic Jason, love the Kanye also, thxs for the sneak peek earlier.
Jason, as I said on the NCN, these are brilliant. Just a quick question, I'm curious as to the pose for Jim Jones, it seems like a funny angle, since I don't know anything about him I'm guessing it's how he stands, does he ?
When I grow up I want to be you.
great one man! I love the handling of the fabric on this.

I agree with Rich Conley, i too want to be you when i grow up! awesome job, every time I see Jim Jones i notice his button nose, not as cute as a "button nose" on a seven dwarf, but either way, good eye, cocky cocky cocky, great job as always, this is probably one of my favorite sets of yours, very inspiring, thanks Jason!

hi jason , i stumbled upon your blog this past week , i'm actually amazed by your style and the caricatures you are drawing. i'm not an art student (i study pharmacy) but i love drawing and art eversince i was a kid and i have the talent. and i want to give it some time so i can improve my skills. i want to study caricatures so i decided to practice on copying your artworks (i've almost downloaded every single artwork on this blog). i just have a couple of questions to ask you i hope you don't mind ...
(1) What kind of pencil do you use for sketching and shading ? ...
(2) When you do your shading do you start off right away with cross hatching or do some traditional smooth shading at first and then go over it a couple of times in the form of diagonal strokes in different angles to obtain this kind of cross-hatching ?
i guess i have my own style, it's just i need more development and to step up my skills ....
a few old / new examples of the way i draw (i'm kinda rusty now) :
